Creativity can be inspired by objects around us
This term our unit of inquiry is ‘Creativity can be inspired by objects around us’.
Our unit of inquiry will lead onto considering what it is like to work on a cocoa bean farm and we will look at the production line from bean to bar. During this inquiry, we will expand our knowledge of the different countries and oceans in our world and will relate this to the production line of chocolate. In addition, we will find out about the role the Aztecs had in discovering and making chocolate. Later in the term, we will design and make our own chocolate bars. We will consider the design of packaging, choose what we would like to include in our chocolate bar and promote our own chocolate bars by persuading our peers to buy them.

We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
Following on from our maths last term, we are beginning this term by continuing our work with money, by solving problems involving addition and subtraction, such as finding the total and giving change. We will move onto multiplication and division, starting with making equal groups and learning how to divide by sharing and grouping. We will apply this knowledge to divide by 2, 5 and 10, as well as exploring the relationship between multiplication and division facts. Following on from this, we will be moving on to creating and interpreting statistics using tally charts, pictograms and bar charts. We will be applying our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s when interpreting scales on charts and interpreting information from it. At the end of the term, we will be recapping and building upon our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes by identifying and describing their properties, comparing and sorting them and exploring lines of symmetry shapes also.
- What do we know about chocolate?
- What do we know about the Aztecs?
- How does chocolate go from bean to bar?

Thank you for your ongoing support.
- Using chocolate in a recipe and think about where the ingredients came from.
- Writing a description about a chocolate bar using your senses to describe.
- Researching the Aztecs to find out what else they were famous for.
- Finding out which countries grow cocoa beans.
- Imagining that you are going to meet Willy Wonka. What would you like to ask him and why?
- Trying some different varieties of chocolate (e.g. white, dark and milk). Can you explain the difference between them?
