This term our unit of inquiry is ‘Stories can take on different forms and be told in many ways’. We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
- Where can stories be found?
- How do we express ourselves through stories?
- How do stories have different meanings for different people?
Our unit of inquiry will lead onto learning about the life of Aborigines and how their art tells a story about their past. We will be finding out about their lives and will compare the techniques they have used to other artists who have used similar styles. We are going to study David Hockney and will create our own paintings inspired by his work. These paintings will tell the story of a traditional tale which will link with our learning in English. Additionally, we will learn to tell stories in a variety of different ways, including through dance and drama.
In English this term, we will be learning about and retelling a range of alternative traditional tales. We will begin the term by using the original story of The Three Little Pigs to identify the features of a traditional tale. We will look at alternative versions of the story, including ‘The Three Little Wolves and The Big Bad Pig’ by Eugene Trivizas and Helen Oxenbury, and will plan and re-write our own alternative version of The Three Little Pigs. We will compare similarities and differences between traditional tales, including Aesop’s fables and the features of these.
In maths this term, we will start looking at money, by recapping coins and counting money (pence, pounds and combinations of both). Then we will extend this to calculating amounts with money, e.g. finding the total and finding the difference. Later in the term we will move onto multiplication and division, where we will recap making equal groups and arrays, before moving onto the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, more formal multiplication and dividing by sharing.
