This term our unit of inquiry is ‘People learn and adapt in order to survive’. The children will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
- How can we convey a powerful message through art?
- How have human organisations changed over time?
- What impact did the choices people made have on the Great Fire of London?
Our unit of inquiry will lead onto learning about the Great Fire of London. The children will be learning about and sharing ideas based on this significant event in history. They will collect evidence about the main events, learn about significant individuals, including Samuel Pepys, who played an important part during this time and will look at the places that were affected by this event in history. We will also look at how organisations have changed over time. Within our unit of inquiry, the children will learn to use art to convey powerful messages about Remembrance day, the Great Fire of London and Christmas.
In English this term, the children will begin by exploring the features of, and creating our own instructions, for how to bake bread rolls. This will link with our unit of inquiry learning and how the Great Fire of London started in Farriner’s bakery. The children will create an ‘eyewitness’ description of the Great Fire of London and our very own newspaper report about the events of 1666. The children will gather their own facts and information in preparation for this. At the end of the term, the children will explore different poems related to the Great Fire of London.
In maths this term, we will further develop our understanding of addition and subtraction. We will be adding and subtracting multiples of 10 to 2-digit numbers, moving onto adding 1-digit numbers to and subtracting them from 2-digit numbers, as well as adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers. After addition and subtraction we will start looking at money, by recapping coins and counting money (pence, pounds and combinations of both).
