Welcome to Year 2

Mrs R Leeves
Miss J Hayes

Term 3:
This term year 2 are exploring … Explorers!  We are looking at men and women who have discovered new things and what affect it has had on our lives today.
The pupils started their inquiry by finding out about an explorer of their choice at home. Pupils presented this to the class in different ways; through posters, video presentations, explorer fact files.  You can see some of these below.

Our primary focus is sea explorers, in particular those in the 15th and 16th century.  We will be investigating the modes of transport they used and how these designs changed over time. This investigation will be completed by the class making their own model boat from recent times.

In maths, our focus will include multiplication, division, fractions and time.  We will be working towards mastering these skills in different situations so we can apply out knowledge to solve problems.
We will be looking at a range of books in English, including information books about explorers, poems and pirate stories.  We will also be studying the non word book ‘The Arrival’ which tells the story entirely through pictures.
