Welcome to Year 2

Miss L Weeks
Miss V Bryant

Term 5:
This term year 2, alongside year 1, are studying a unit of inquiry entitled “Knowing about our family’s histories enables us to discover our cultural origins and develop historical awareness..”  We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
  • Who am I and where do I come from?
  • How am I like other people?
  • What might it feel like to be part of a different culture?
At home, pupils have been asking lots of questions about their family history and finding out about their own heritage.  Over the holidays, pupils were invited to create their own family tree in whichever way they choose.  It has been very interesting to see the differences in everyone’s families and backgrounds.
We will be studying a range of different areas during out inquiry this term.  As well as our own family, we will also be looking at the Royal family and how their ancestry.  This will lead us into finding out more about our country and what it is means to be part of British culture, including symbols that we use to represent up and different faith groups.  We will also be looking at the range of other cultures that make up our school community and family and the similarities and differences between them all.

This term we will also take part in healthy living week where we will look at our own lifestyles and make sure that we are living healthily.  We will also look at different ways we can be more healthy including workshops to try different exercises and different ways to create and prepare food.

In English we are using the Katie in London as our core text. We will be looking at different aspects of the text and using it to inspire our own factual writing about our own culture.

Our maths learning will take a more investigative approach this term as pupils consider how they have found answers and if there are different ways of getting to the same place.  We will also be asking lots of questions about how we have found answers and why we have chosen that approach.
