This term our unit of inquiry is Who We Are and our key concept is ‘Farms around our community meet our needs in different ways’. We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
- How has farmers’ equipment changed over time?
- How do we support our local community?
- Why should we buy local produce?
In English our core texts for this term are ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and ‘What the Ladybird Heard Next’ by Julia Donaldson. We will be predicting what will happen in the story from the front cover and the blurb and by the end of the term, will have even produced our very own ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ maps.
In maths this term we will learn about the place value of numbers and will also continue to develop our understanding of numbers up to 30. We will practise counting forwards and backwards, reading and writing numbers and identifying one more and one less. Understanding the place value of numbers will allow the children to make clear representations of numbers using objects or pictorial representations. We will read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (-) and equals (=) signs. With this knowledge, the children will learn to represent and use number bonds, add and subtract one digit numbers and solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction.
We will be developing the children’s skills of basic movements including running and jumping, throwing and catching in P.E. As well as this, we will also develop and practise the skill of balance, agility and co-ordination.
