Reception - Term 6

24/5/2019

Term 6:
This term our unit of inquiry is themed around ‘Where we are in place and time’, and our central idea is ‘Journeys lead to discovery and new adventures’.  We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
  • How do people move from place to place?
  • What is space?
  • How do we know about space?
Our unit of inquiry will begin by exploring different ways people move from place to place.  We will then move on to find out about a few famous astronauts such as Tim Peake and Neil Armstrong.  The children have thought about questions they have about our unit and they said they would like to learn about what it is like to live in space.  Therefore, we will be looking at Tim Peake’s life in the space station and how he manages everyday activities such as brushing his teeth, washing or sleeping.  We will also be learning to name and order the planets in order from the sun and some facts about each one.   We will also learn about our journey to Year 1 and will spend some time in our new classroom.
Our core texts this term may include:

In maths we will be consolidating our number skills and all the skills we have learnt over the year to solve problems.  We will be developing our fluency when adding numbers together through our ‘Big Maths’ weekly challenges.  We will be investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
In our P.E. lessons we will be taking part in weekly Balanceability sessions in small groups.  Balanceability is delivered by qualified instructors in the hall or on the playground and the sessions are designed to provide children with the best possible start in cycling.  We look forward to developing and learning valuable cycling skills.

During Healthy Living Week we will be talking about the importance of staying healthy and getting involved in lots of activities such as why it is important to clean our teeth and how we can make healthy choices in relation to healthy eating and exercise.

Home Learning

We love to see all the fantastic learning experiences the pupils have had at home.  Pupils are invited to put any home learning evidence in their reading folders or upload evidence to Tapestry.  We enjoy sharing the children’s achievements in class.
Thank you for your continued support.
