Reception - Term 6

22/6/2018

This term our unit of inquiry is themed around ‘Where we are in place and time’, and our central idea is ‘Journeys lead to discovery and new adventures’.  We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
  • What are the names of the planets in our solar system?
  • Who has made the journey to space before?
  • What is it like in space?  How do we know?
Our unit of inquiry will begin by finding out about a famous astronaut – Tim Peake.  The children have thought about questions and they said they would like to learn about what it is like to live in space so we will be looking at Tim Peake’s life in the space station and how he manages everyday activities such as brushing his teeth, washing or sleeping.  We will also be learning to name and order the planets in order from the sun and some facts about each one.   We will then move on to look at stories about adventures relating to space.
Our core texts this term are:

In Maths we will be consolidating our number skills and all the skills we have learnt over the year to solve problems.  We will be developing our fluency when adding numbers together through our ‘Big Maths’ weekly challenges.  We will be investigating the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
Our P.E. lessons will be learning the skills to prepare us for spots day.  For example, we will be learning how to jump in different ways to be able to jump as far as we can, how to throw a beanbag in the same way as a shotput and how to throw javelins safely.
During Healthy Living Week we will be talking about the importance of staying healthy and getting involved in lots of activities such as why it is important to clean our teeth and how we could make healthy choices in relation to healthy eating and exercise.

Term 6 Home Learning
We love to see all the fantastic learning experiences the pupils have had at home.  Pupils are invited to stick in any home learning evidence in their books or upload evidence to Tapestry.  We enjoy sharing the children’s achievements in class.
Thank you for your continued support.
