Reception - Term 5

9/4/2018

This term our unit of inquiry is themed around ‘Sharing the Planet’, and our central idea is ‘We need to appreciate and care for the living world’.  We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
  • How do living things grow and change?
  • How can we help to appreciate and care for our world?
Our unit of inquiry will begin by exploring what plants need to grow by planting seeds and making observations.  We will also look at what plants need to grow through investigations and we will be looking at the different parts of a plant.  We will be learning about how we can care for living things such as chickens by looking after eggs.  We will have the opportunity to watch them hatch and see the chicks grow.  Through this opportunity we will learn the life cycle of a chicken.  To finish our unit of inquiry we will investigate how we can help to appreciate and care for the living world.  For example, picking up rubbish and recycling or reusing.
Our core texts this term are:
In phonics we will practise our blending and segmenting skills to read and write simple words and sentences using our sounds.  We will learn to blend and segment longer words with adjacent consonants, e.g. swim, clap, jump and help.  We will continue to learn more ‘tricky’ words which we cannot use our sounds for e.g. ‘said’, ‘like’, have’ and ‘so’.
We will be taking part in weekly yoga classes linked to our Unit of Inquiry and we will be learning dance this term.

Term 5 Home Learning
We love to see all the fantastic learning experiences the pupils have had at home.  Pupils are invited to stick in any home learning evidence in their books or upload evidence to Tapestry.  We enjoy sharing the children’s achievements in class.
Thank you for your continued support.
