This term our unit of inquiry is themed around ‘Where we are in place and time’, and our central idea is ‘Journeys lead to discovery and new adventures’. We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
- What is space?
- Who has made the journey to space before?
- How do we know about space?
Our core texts this term are:
In phonics we will be revising the sounds we have learnt so far focusing on the digraphs (such as oa, oi and ar) and trigraphs. We will practise our blending and segmenting skills to read and write simple words and sentences using our sounds. We will continue to learn more ‘tricky’ words which we cannot use our sounds for e.g. ‘was’, ‘are’ and ‘all’. We will be learning to spell them correctly and apply them in our writing.
In maths we continue to focus on individual numbers each week. We will be learning to use the vocabulary involved in adding and subtracting and we will be learning to count on or back to find the answer. We will be learning to double amounts using objects. We will be learning to use everyday language related to weight and order two or more items.

We love to see all the fantastic learning experiences the pupils have had at home. Pupils are invited to upload evidence to Tapestry or bring their learning into school. We enjoy sharing the children’s achievements in class.
Thank you for your continued support.

- Going to the Observatory Science Centre in Hailsham.
- Going to the Science Museum in London to see their ‘Exploring Science’ exhibition.
- Creating a vehicle that you could use to travel into space. What would it look like? You could create a rocket, a spacecraft or you could design your own type of vehicle to get you into space.
- Going outside when it is dark or looking out the window and talking about what you can see. Can you count the stars? Can you find the moon? Does the sky change from one night to the next?
- Making a rocket on a string. You could make a simple cardboard tube rocket with a deflated balloon taped to it, thread a string through the tube and ask 2 people to hold either end. Then ask an adult to blow up the balloon and release it. How far will your rocket travel?
- Reading stories about space or singing songs about space such as
