This term our unit of inquiry is themed around ‘How we express ourselves’, and our central idea is ‘Stories can engage their audience and communicate meaning’. We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:

In phonics we will be continuing to learn the phase 3 digraphs (2 letters that make one sound) such as ai, ee, oi and ow as well as learning some trigraphs (3 letters that make one sound) igh, ear and air. We will practise our blending and segmenting skills to read and write simple words and sentences using our sounds. We will continue to learn more ‘tricky’ words which we cannot use our sounds for e.g. ‘they’, ‘are’ and ‘all’.
This term we will be continuing to take part in ‘BEAM’ sessions as a class. In addition, we will also be taking part in weekly yoga classes.

In Maths we will be learning to use the vocabulary involved in adding and subtracting and we will be learning to use quantities or number lines to help us work out the answers. We will be learning to use everyday language related to weight and order two or more items.
