How We Organise Ourselves – People in communities work together to keep us safe.
Our unit of inquiry will begin by exploring our local community to look at the signs and ways people help keep us safe.  We will be learning about the individuals in our homes, school and local community and how they work together to keep us safe.
Our core texts this term are:

We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
  • Who helps keep us safe?
  • Why do people work together?  What would happen if we didn’t work together?
  • How has the way people worked together changed?
In phonics we will be continuing to learn the phase 3 digraphs (2 letters that make one sound) such as ai, ee, oi and ow as well as learning some trigraphs (3 letters that make one sound) igh, ear, air and ure.  We will practise our blending and segmenting skills to read and write simple words and phrases using our sounds.  We will continue to learn more ‘tricky’ words which we cannot use our sounds for e.g. ‘you’, ‘they’, ‘was’ and ‘me’.
In maths we will continue to focus on a number each week.  We will learn about the number zero and the number bonds to 5.  We will continue to focus on a number a week, looking at counting to the numbers forwards and backwards and placing objects on a tens frame to represent the number.  We will learn to use positional language to describe how items are positioned in relation to other items.
You might like to join in with our learning by…
  • Talking about who helps us at home and how they keep us safe.
  • Discussing who looks after all of us in our community and why we need them to keep us happy, healthy and safe.
  • When you hear sirens, discuss which emergency service they are.
  • Learning the number you would need to call in an emergency and what your address is.
  • Visiting the local library to find books about people who help keep us safe.
  • Visiting the following website to find out facts and questions you can discuss at home: http://www.theschoolrun.com/homework-help/people-who-help-us
If you know anyone who helps keep us safe we would love to hear all about them and maybe even arrange a visit for them to our school.
Term 3 Home Learning
We love to see all the fantastic learning experiences the pupils have had at home.  Pupils are invited to send any home learning evidence into school in their reading folder or upload evidence to Tapestry.  We enjoy sharing the children’s achievements in class.
Thank you for your continued support.
