This term our unit of inquiry is ‘Weather can affect people and places’. The children will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
- What are the different types of weather?
- How does the weather change?
- How do people prepare for the weather?
Our unit of inquiry will begin by identifying the different types of weather and how they are different. We will be learning to observe the weather and how it can change throughout the day or over time. We will also be talking about the different types of clothes we wear for the different types of weather and why.
Our core texts this term are ‘After the Storm’, ‘Jack Frost’ and ‘The Snowman’. We will be looking closely at the effects the weather has on the environment and to the people and animals that live there. We will talk about the ways people prepare for weather such as floods.
In phonics we will be continuing to look at the phase 2 phonemes (single sounds) and then we will be revising all the sounds we have learnt so far. We will also continue to practise our segmenting and blending skills to help us read and write simple words and phrases using our sounds. This term we will start to look at phase 2 tricky words which we cannot use our sounds for e.g ‘he’ ‘my’ and ‘go’.
In maths this term, we will continue to develop our understanding of numerals to 10 and how to form each numeral correctly. We will also be learning how to sort into groups, estimate and how to sequence our day by making our own jam sandwiches!
