This term our unit of inquiry is themed around ‘How we organise ourselves’, and our central idea is that ‘we can organise our feelings, thoughts and ideas through play.’ We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:
Our unit of inquiry will begin by identifying our own feelings and how we organise them. We will be learning to identify the characters in our core texts and investigating how the characters might be feeling in our core texts through role play activities, hot seating and discussions.
Our core texts this term are the stories, ‘Room on the Broom’, ‘Tyrannosaurus Drip’, ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘Stickman’ written by Julia Donaldson. We will be learning to recognise rhyming words and continue a rhyming string. We will be sharing our opinions of the characters and whether we think they are ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and why.
In phonics we will be finishing the phase 2 phonemes (single sounds) and then we will revising all the sounds we have learnt. We will continue to practise our blending and segmenting skills to read and write simple words and phrases using our sounds. We will continue to learn more ‘tricky’ words which we cannot use our sounds for e.g. ‘into’, ‘me’ and ‘my’.
This term we will be taking part in ‘BEAM’ sessions as a class. This is a six-week balance, education and movement programme, where the emphasis is on achievement and fun.
In Maths we will be learning to use everyday language relating to capacity such as ‘full’, ‘empty’, ‘half full’, ‘nearly empty’ and ‘nearly full’. We will also be developing our counting skills and matching amounts to numerals. We will be learning the order of the numbers and the letter formation of the numerals. We will start to learn about money and develop our knowledge of shapes to include naming 3D shapes.
- What are feelings?
- How do we know how we feel?
- How do we organise our thoughts and ideas?
