Term 2: This half term we are learning about Day and Night and we will be focusing on Space and Nocturnal animals. We will be linking our learning across all subjects wherever possible and incorporating Bonfire Night, Diwali and Christmas.
As a part of this learning, we will be focusing on the texts ‘Beegu’ and ‘Owl Babies’. Beegu is not supposed to be on Earth. She is lost. She is a friendly little creature, but the Earth People don't seem very welcoming at all. However, so far she has only met the BIG ones. The little ones are a different matter. The pupils will be making lost posters and helping Beegu find a way back home.
Owl babies is the story of three baby owls, Sarah, Percy and Bill, who wake one night to find their mother gone. And as the darkness gathers and they perch patiently on their branch waiting for her return, oh how they worry! What are those scary noises all around them? What is mum doing? When will she be back? To support our learning on this book we will be having a very exciting visit from the Raptor Centre who will bring a variety of birds of prey to visit the pupils.
The pupils will learn how to care for the different animals in their animal hospital and learn about the importance of picking up litter so it doesn’t injure the animals. They will make bird seed for the birds to eat over winter and create animal homes to release the animals back into the wild at the end of their project.
In Numeracy this half term we will continue to focus on counting on and back confidently to 20 and beyond using natural Autumn objects we can find. We will also look at and sequence familiar events across the day and explore periods of time and begin to measure how long certain tasks take us to complete e.g. putting on our coat. Following this we will explore 3D shapes and use these to make own space rockets.
