IB PYP
Our curriculum uses the Revised National Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). Through our curriculum we endeavour to develop a lifelong love of learning; give opportunities to explore, question and investigate and enable all children to achieve the highest possible outcomes.
Our curriculum is planned using topic based learning. Each year group has a different topic which spans over one half term. We plan topics that have rich contexts using paintings, books and artefacts to inspire all children. Learning at Skinners’ Kent Primary School goes beyond the classroom as our pupils experience a range of trips and visits linked to their topics. The topics are designed to ensure there is clear progression of knowledge, skills and content across the school using the Revised National Curriculum and IB PYP as a starting point. Learning is designed to be memorable and cross curricular links are made to ensure all learning is meaningful. Children are immersed in the context for learning, they are actively involved in the journey and drive their learning forwards.
Within our half termly topics we aim to bring learning to life by linking our curriculum to the real world through our IB PYP units of inquiry which are underpinned by the six transdisciplinary themes of:
Once we become an authorised IB PYP school, each year group will have six units of inquiry in which they will cover each of the transdisciplinary themes, except in our Reception class where there will be four units of inquiry.
